Spartans Score 4 Touchdowns in Victory
The Spartan defense lines up to stop the Steelmen.
The Spartans delivered a victory to the home crowd at Homecoming Friday night, defeating the Joliet Central Steelmen 30-6. An impressive rushing attack allowed the Spartans to control the game from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. The Spartans ground game was led by Jonathan Espinosa-Luna with a massive 107 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries, followed by Mason Gougis who racked up 84 yards and a touchdown on 6 carries, and Omar Elsherif adding 38 yards and a touchdown on 6 carries. Quarterback Caron Johnson added to scoring with a beautiful 33 yard pass to Corey Jones for another touchdown.
Head Coach Justin Trovato was pleased with the win, “Overall it was a great team effort. Defense played lights out, flying to the football throughout the game. They forced 2 turnovers and got a safety. Offensively the run game was extremely effective allowing us to control the pace of the game. We had some of our key players get a little banged up during the game and guys were ready when their number was called!” The crowd was excited and did a good job supporting their Romeoville Spartans. The student section even spilled onto the field to celebrate with the team.
Romeoville will play their final home game of the season Friday October 14 at 7:00pm on the stadium field against the Plainfield Central Wildcats.
