Spartan Teacher Performs at Madison Square Garden

Last week RHS Percussion Director Mr. Hill, racked up the frequent flyer miles as he jetted off to New York City to perform with Kygo at the Madison Square Garden.

Kygo is the Norwegian DJ and music producer who has famously collaborated with many of the biggest artists in pop music including Charlie Puth and Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Selena Gomez, and many more. Mr. Hill recently performed with Kygo as part of a drumline that the artist featured during his performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago this summer.

Anyone who knows Mr. Hill knows that he brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and experience to the drumline, marching band and music program here at RHS, so it was difficult to make room for this hard to miss opportunity in the middle of what is an already packed Homecoming week for the marching band and drumline. Was it worth all the extra hours and travel? “It was 100% percent worth it. It was important to make everything happen. Lots of people were depending on me and I wanted to make all the experiences the best they could be. Sometimes you have to step up and make things happen if you want your goals to be a reality,” stated Mr. Hill.

So what stood out from this incredible experience? “The most memorable moment was walking out onto the stage with no one there and taking in the moment of having the opportunity to play at Madison Square Garden. Those are things you don’t think about when you are 13 years old just picking up a pair of sticks for the first time.” Hopefully some of the talented musicians here at RHS will be inspired to continue the journey because you never know what can come of it.
